Broken Hill to Cameron Corner via Packsaddle
Silver City Highway
Driving to Cameron Corner from Broken Hill via the (now sealed) Silver City Highway is the only real option after rain and during floods, BUT it will only get you as far as Tibooburra, and from there to the Corner is unsealed and closed when wet/flooded.. Despite many people thinking a muddy road is accessible if you have a 4x4, the truth is they can close pretty quickly to prevent the roads from being cut up by people travelling on them when they are muddy. These are roads that are used by locals on a daily basis and it is important to keep them in good conditions.
With that in mind, there are occasions when the more adventurous routes of the Dog Fence and Sturt's Route will be closed, going up the highway does not mean a lack of adventure. With Packsaddle Roadhouse being about the halfway point between Broken Hill and Tibooburra, that in itself should be motivation enough to take the 'blacktop'. Perfect for an overnight experience!
The run north from Packsaddle to Milparinka is about 120 km and is worth the stopover before the last 40 km to Tibooburra. The other option if want to go straight to Tibooburra is to take the Corner Explorer touring route back from Cameron Corner.
With Tibooburra as a base (either before heading out to Cameron Corner or on the return), Cameron Corner is a 120 km trip through the real outback (or the start of) with some wonderful scenic highlights along the way to the Corner.
